A Dairy Project Plan
Our dairy project plan titled “market opportunities for milk producers in Kenya” was one of the 100 finalist (out of 1,700 entries) projects that were selected worldwide to compete for funding under the World Bank managed Development Market Place Programme but was not one of the 22 projects that was funded. SAMOGA VENTURES intends to form partnership with the Gatundu Dairy Farmers based in Gatundu to develop a sustainable dairy value chain.
Other Planned Projects
Other planned projects include a feedlot for beef cattle and shoats that will include a modern abettor to produce quality meats for the local and national markets.
The company is however ready to do business with any other serious investor as it is yet to enter in any binding agreement with any investor.
Hay Farming
Hay farming involves growing and harvesting grasses and legumes for animal feed. Key steps include selecting suitable forage, cutting, drying, and baling the crops to preserve nutrition. Proper harvesting techniques and timing are critical for producing high-quality hay, which supports livestock health and contributes to sustainable agricultural practices.
Factors that determine high-quality hay
High-quality hay is determined by several key factors: the type of plant used, optimal harvest timing before flowering, appropriate moisture content (ideally 15-20% at baling), and effective drying conditions.
Soil health plays a role in nutrient content, while pest and disease management is crucial for maintaining quality. Additionally, the method of baling affects how well the hay stores and is fed to livestock.
